"UK tech is flying in 2026, on track for its second highest year on record."
That’s a glowing endorsement from Orla Browne, Head of Insights at Dealroom, who we have again partnered with to produce our last UK Innovation Update.
So what are the numbers telling us this time?
According to the report, UK startups and scaleups raised $6.1 billion in Q3 2026, making it the second-strongest third quarter in five years.
Investment was concentrated in larger rounds: 11 deals of $100 million or more contributed $3.5 billion, led by CityFibre’s $1.2 billion growth round.
Breakout-stage companies also attracted $1.9 billion across 55 deals, increasing their share of quarterly investment from 24% a year ago to 30%.
Fundraising by UK venture managers reached a record $6.9 billion across 31 new funds. For context, that’s four times the quarterly average of the previous two years.
Index Ventures accounted for just over half of the total with $3.5 billion raised across seed, venture and growth strategies, while Highland Europe, QuantumLight and Crane Venture Partners also announced significant new funds.
This depth of capital provides backing for businesses at different stages of growth and creates capacity for investment in the years ahead.
Telecom and fintech attracted the most capital during the quarter, supported by major rounds from CityFibre and FNZ.
Health led by deal count, with 62 rounds and $645 million invested, reflecting the growing convergence of life sciences, software, data and AI.
Semiconductor companies have raised $1.59 billion in 2026 so far - already an annual record.
