Welcome to the first episode of our new Founder Success podcast series: Second Thoughts. On this podcast we expose the unfiltered truths of scaling a company, the tough calls, the mistakes, pivots and breakthroughs that follow. In each episode we speak to a founder that has been there and done it to discuss the biggest lessons they learned. Founder and CEO of Alecto, Will Rice, joins us this time to take us through his experience of founding a company and how he’s using that experience for his next venture.

  1. In the early stages, it feels like you’re spending most of your time “fighting fires” rather than on "nice-to-have" projects. In his next startup, Will is looking at the “nice-to-haves” earlier, such as creating interview templates, culture docs and hiring to make things easier as the company grows.
  2. Communication with your team is incredibly important, however discussing too much can provide misdirection. Will suggests finding a Founder Coach you can discuss ideas with.
  3. Will recommends when fundraising to focus on proactive communication with all your stakeholders. This includes taking an “always-on sale” approach so you are constantly reinforcing your message you want to send to investors even when you’re not actively selling.

Welcome to Second Thoughts

Building a company can be a lonely experience. You're constantly making big decisions that could change the future of your startup and you don't always have the right support to help you make those big decisions.

In this podcast, I speak with experienced founders about the decisions they'd rethink, the lessons they learned and the things they wish they'd known, so you can avoid the same mistakes along the way.

This week I am joined by Will Rice. Will is a serial Founder, who set up Gen H back in January 2019, a mortgage company aimed at supercharging first time buyers. During that journey Gen H raised over £50mil from top tier VC funds. Since successfully exiting in 2025, he is embarking on a new project called Alecto.
